German club Borussia Dortmund turned down a golden opportunity to sign prolific forward Victor Boniface in the summer, Punch Sports Extra has learnt.

According to Fussballtransfers, the Black and Yellows were offered the Nigerian forward but rejected the chance to sign the 22-year-old from Union Saint Gilliose following Sebastien Haller’s new found form after his cancer surgery.

Dortmund also passed up the chance to sign Granit Xhaka, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen instead, from Arsenal.

“Both Granit Xhaka and Victor Boniface were offered to BVB (Dortmund). For Boniface, the timing was unfavourable. He was discussed by the runners-up last spring (Dortmund) but at that time Sebastien Haller was blossoming after his cancer surgery,” the report stated.

The Nigerian striker has been making the headlines for his outstanding performances with Leverkusen since joining in the summer for €20m.

The former Bodo/Glimt forward has scored seven goals and made two assists in his opening seven Bundesliga appearances (nine goals in 10 games across all competitions).

Last month, Boniface won the Player of The Month award and was also named the Rookie of The Month for his splendid displays.

He is currently in the race for the Player of The Month award for the second consecutive month. The Nigerian is up against teammate Alex Grimaldo, Bayern Munich duo Leroy Sane and Harry Kane, as well as Chris Fuhrich and Serhou Guirassy.
