Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has assured commercial tricycle operators that his men would protect them from extortionists, touts and other criminal elements.

Adeoye gave the assurance when the Anambra State Keke Drivers’ Forum (AKDF), led by Comrade Osita Obi, paid him a courtesy visit.

The commissioner added that the command would also ensure the protection of citizens’ life and property.

Adeoye noted that the state is calm because the police took proactive steps in tackling cultism and other crimes.

He urged AKDF members to support the police by providing useful  information needed to fight crime and criminality.

He said: “If you support the police, it is good for all of us. If you are law-abiding citizens, the police will do everything to protect you. If you are law-abiding, there will be no cause for you to be afraid because the police are  there for you. The police will support you to do your work. Help the police to identify criminals in the state.”

He commended the tricycle drivers  for their unity of purpose and urged them to channel grievances through recognised members of the Forum for prompt attention.

Earlier in his speech, Obi said the purpose of the visit was to show solidarity with the commissioner, men, and officers of the command.

He also commended Adeoye for professionalism and the curtailing of cult-related killings, kidnapping and other crimes.
